So, I believe the final CO has been signed to help open SFHQ and the final bit of code has been placed for the Administration System. A separate email with your admin access username and password will follow with basic instructions. With that said I want to cover a few topics so that everyone is on the same page.
First of all, I am really glad to have all of you aboard for this great occasion. Think about how the first STFers must have felt during the opening of the WeBB. Did they truly know that the club would last as long as it did? My hope is that we will be the first to pioneer and develop SFHQ for the many others who I am sure will follow.
SFHQ captures the posting style that we all have come to love, but will venture off in a new direction in terms of government. As we speak I am putting the final touches on what will serve as the governing document for SFHQ. This document will champion CO rights, create several elected positions that will be held accountable to the membership, and allow broad topics to be voted on by all members. I believe SFHQ will learn from the past mistakes some of us have witnessed, and rise to a new level.
Opening - The planned opening for SFHQ will be on May 27th. This is more then a month ahead of schedule! This will be a private opening for current members, or members invited by one of the CO s. Any friend you choose to invite must go through the Join form on the main page and place what ship they would like to join in the comment field. SFHQ will tentatively open to the general Internet public on June 15th. The lag time will allow us to test the system to a broader extent so that any major bugs can be worked out. Any errors should be posted in the Technical Support Department.
Ship Specs – Currently SFHQ has no official ship specs. My intention is to have all ships eventually run with member-designed specs. We do have a basic design given to me by Steve Johnson. I will email this out at a later time. You may adopt that ship spec, or wait until a suitable one comes along.
Sims and GMs – There are currently no rules for who can GM your ship. I trust everyone to do what they feel is best for their ship. I do recommend that you not proceed with a sim until your roster is stable. If it takes a month to have a stable roster, then it takes a month. Use your best judgment.
Admin Access – As I mentioned earlier I will send out an email soon with information on how to control your topics and rosters. For changes to MOTDs you must email me until the Modify MOTD ability is up and operational. For those of you that have not submitted an MOTD, please do that soon with an embedded CSS. If you want SFHQ to give you a standard one, advise to that as well.
Outside Clubs – Should you receive any official inquiries from STF or any other outside clubs as to the nature or mechanics of SFHQ as a whole, please refrain from comment and forward the information to me. I will serve as the sole official representative for SFHQ in the initial days and shall speak on its behalf.
Leadership – The SFHQ government will not come into effect until 8 months from now. Until then there will be a council of three that will lead the club in its initial launch. Currently, I will serve as C&C, with Jessica McClary and Edgar Cramer on the council as well. There will be three fleets in the initial opening. One of the three council members will lead a fleet. Feel free to ask any of us for help on any issues you might have.
Assignments – Here is the final roster assignments:
Fleet One – Opens May 27th
USS Independence – Alex Verdusco
USS Crazy Horse – Christa Backman
Fleet Two – Opens May 27th
USS Khitomer – Edgar Cramer
USS Resolution – Mike Culver
Fleet Three (will be opened in July or August)
USS Immortale – Jessica McClary
USS Black Prince – Symon Silvestor
If you have any further questions feel free to email me. If it is of general interest I will forward it on to the group.
Lets all remember we are starting a club and a ship from scratch. There are many challenges before us. It won’t be easy. It won’t happen overnight. But it will be rewarding. I am confident with the talent we have so far that success will be the only outcome. I again thank you for being a part of this and I look forward to seeing you in the club!
Alex Verdusco
